Crisp County slips by Syrupmaids

The Crisp County Lady Cougars softball team handed the Cairo
Syrupmaids their first loss of the season last Thursday in
Cordele, slipping by the Maids 3-1 in a region 1-AAA match up.
Both teams battled to a 0-0 tie until the Lady Cougars scored
two runs in the fourth inning. The Lady Cougars led the inning
off with a walk, then the runner eventually made her way to
third. Cairo's Casey Joiner then struck out the next two
batters, but the runner scored with two outs on a base hit by
the next batter. That batter then scored on another hit by the
Lady Cougars.
The Maids then pushed a run across in the fifth inning after
Ashley Holt reached on a base hit and scored on a two out RBI
single by Katelyn Knight. The Lady Cougars scored again in the
bottom of the fifth after the lead off batter reached on an
error and later scored.
The Syrupmaids had five hits in the game, including two
from shortstop Ashley Holt, Katelyn Knight, Blair Bracewell,
and Kayla Pope.
Cairo's Joiner picked up the loss, striking out four batters,
giving up three runs on three hits, and walking seven. Cairo's
record drops to 5-1, 0-1 in the region. Cairo hosted Dougherty
on Tuesday and will play Westover at home on Thursday, both
games are region games
