Syrupmaids blank Dougherty

Cairo's Casey Joiner no-hits Lady Trojans
The Cairo Syrupmaids picked up their first region win of
the 2007 season with a 15-0 shutout victory over the
Dougherty Lady Trojans last Tuesday at Cairo High
School. Cairo's Casey Joiner pitched a no hitter, and
faced just one batter over the minimum in the win.
Joiner, who struck out eight Lady Trojans, had just one
base runner, who reached on an error in the third
inning. Cairo was led at the plate by Kelsi Carraway who
was 2-2 with four RBIs, Joiner was 2-2 with three
RBIs. Cairo's Amber Brenton went 1-4 with 2 RBIs,
Ashley Holt was 1-4 with a triple and an RBI, Jessica
Turner went 1-2 with an RBI, and Courtney Cox was 1-4 on
the day.
The Syrupmaids had eight hits in all, but the Lady
Trojans committed eight errors as well. Cairo scored 14
runs in the first inning, and one more in the fourth
before the game was called.
"This was a big win for us, any time you can pick up a
region win its big, we put the game away early, and hit
the ball well today," said Cairo coach Amy Hagan.
With the win, Cairo improved their record to 1-1 in
region play. The Syrupmaids would face the Westover
Lady Patriots on Thursday of last week in their next
region contest.
