Westover edges Syrupmaids

The Westover Lady Patriots took advantage of one
bad inning by the Cairo Syrupmaids last
Thursday, and beat the Maids 3-1 in a region
1-AAA match up at Cairo High School. The
Syrupmaids now drop to 1-2 in region play.
The Syrupmaids played the Lady Patriots tight
for four innings, as the game was played to a
scoreless tie until the top of the fifth
inning. In that inning, the Syrupmaids
committed four costly errors that cost them the
game. "We had one bad inning and it was the
difference in the game," said coach Amy Hagan.
In fact, the Syrupmaids held the Lady patriots
to just one hit in the game, a double in the
costly fifth inning.
Cairo's Casey Joiner and Jennifer Donalson both
had doubles in the game and Kayla Pope picked up
Cairo's other hit. However, much like the loss
to the Crisp CountyLady Cougars the week before,
the Maids were able to score just one run off
of the hits. Cairo's lone run came in the
bottom of the sixth inning after Ashley Cumbie
reached on an error and scored on Joiner's RBI
double.
Cairo faces TCCHS and Worth County this week,
and will play in the Watermelon Tournament this
weekend in Cordele. Cairo's record is now 6-2
overall, and 1-2 in the regio
