It's been a memorable year for the CHS cheerleaders.  Not only did the football squad get to cheer 15 games including the state championship, but the competition squad won the region 1-AAA title for the first time ever.

Last Thursday night the squads held their annual awards banquet, and several cheerleaders were honored.

Four junior varsity cheerleaders were chosen by their fellow peers as leaders on the junior varsity squad including Ashley Hunter, Chelsea Chick, Kayla Johnson, Jarica Williams.

The varsity football cheerleading awards were also presented Thursday night.  The  Cheer Execution Award went to Elisabeth Broome, Dance Execution Award winner was Lindsay Lunday, the  Spirit Award was given to mascot Hope Smith, the 100% Award was given to  Lynlee Gainous, and the Best All-Around Football Cheerleader Award winner was Kabeary Godwin.

Competition Cheerleading Award winners were Emily Oliver, who was given the Leadership Award, Best All-Around Competition Cheerleader Award went to Samantha Carnline, and the  MVP Award winner was Nateshia Cooper.

In addition to the awards every competition cheerleader received a Region Champion patch to add to their letterman jackets for winning the Region 1-AAA Competition Cheerleading Championship.

Letterman Jackets were also given to Debbie Watkins, Malone Williams,  and Kayla Johnson.

Several Senior Awards were handed out at the banquet.  Blair Bracewell (FB Cheerleading), Samantha Carnline (FB and Comp Cheerleading), Lynlee Gainous (FB Cheerleading), Kabeary Godwin (FB and Comp Cheerleading), Lindsay Lunday (FB and Comp Cheerleading), Emily Oliver (FB and Comp Cheerleading), Hope Smith (Mascot), Kiera Stokes (FB Cheerleading), Debbie Watkins (Comp Cheerleading).

Coach Andrea Bentley also announced to the squad that this would be her last year as the football and competition cheerleading coach.  Bentley told the girls she was going to spending more time with her family, but enjoyed her years with the girls.

"It's been a lot of fun, I have coached most of these juniors and seniors since they were in the 7th grade, so I will definantly miss them.  Stepping down has been a hard decision, but one I think is best for me and my family," said Bentley.
