CHS swim teams win three way meet

The CHS Syrupmaker and Syrupmaid swim team
defeated Thomasville and Thomas County Central Wednesday December 12th
in a three way meet held at the YMCA in Thomasville.
The Syrupmaids finished with 102 points, TCCHS had
84 and Thomasville High School had 59. Cairo's Kathryn Prince and
Jennifer Lane both finished with a team high 14 points while Kristin
Roddenbery had 10 points, Brooke Kirkland had 9 points, Meghan Ferrell
finished with 7 points and Ashley Nix earned 6 points in the win. Coach
Jeff brown said Katie Harvey and Natalie Milko also swam well for the
Syrupmaids.
"This was a big meet for our girls, they came
in here at beat two very good swim teams," Brown said. Brown was
also excited about his boy's performances as well. 'We beat Thomasville
and Central and had some swimmers turn in times that were good enough to
qualify them for the state meet in Atlanta in February," Brown said.
The Syrupmakers beat TCCHS and Thomasville with a
score of 116 points, while Thomasville had 81 and TCCHS finished with 56
points.
Syrupmaker swimmers Drew Whigham, James Bowen and
Lee Cox all had team high totals of 14 points each while Duke Posey had
12 points, Tommy Mathis and Robin Kemp had 9 points and Cody Posey finished
with 5 points.
Other Syrupmaker swimmers that swam well were
Joseph Strickland, Jacob Jones, Travis Wayne Redden, and Conner Whigham.
The 200 yard medley relay team of Duke Posey,
Kemp, Bowen and Drew Whigham qualified for state with a time of 1:51.12.
James Bowen also qualified for state in the 1000 yard butterfly and 100 yard
breast stroke. The state meet will be held at Westminster High School in
Atlanta February 8-9, 2008.
The CHS swim teams will be back in action January
5th at the Colquitt County Packer Invitational at Darton College in Albany.
The meet starts at 10am on the Saturday morning.
