Cairo High Swim teams open season

The Cairo Syrupmaid and Syrupmaker swim teams
opened the 2007 season with an impressive start at the Lee County Invitational
held at Darton College in Albany last Saturday. The Syrupmaids finished
fourth out of 14 teams while the Syrupmakers turned in a state qualifying time
in the 200 meter free style relay.
"I thought we got off to good start in our
first meet of the year, everyone has been working hard to get ready for
the season, and I think we'll continue to get better each week," said CHS
swim coach Jeff Brown.
Jennifer Lane was the high point swimmer for the
Maids with 14 points. Kathryn Prince had 8.5 points, Meghan Ferrell and
Brooke Kirkland each had four points and Ashley Nix finished with 1.5 points
in the girls competition. Other Syrupmaid team members are Natalie
Milko, Dana Barfield, Katie Harvey, and Kristen Roddenbery
The Syrupmakers four man relay team consisting of
Lee Cox. Duke Posey, Robin Kemp, and Drew Whigham turned in a state qualifying
time of 1:40:85. Cairo's Drew Whigham was first for Cairo with 15
points, Lee Cox had 13.5 points, Duke Posey had 12.5 points, Tommy Mathis had
12 points, and Robin Kemp had 10.5 points. Other swimmers who turned in
good times were Cody Posey, Jacob Jones, Conner Whigham, and Travis Wayne
Redden.
The Syrupmakers and Syrupmaids will swim again
Wednesday December 12th at the YMCA in Thomasville against Thomasville High
and Thomas County Central. The meet begins at 6 pm.
